The EDP Instructional Assistant works with assigned student or students with specific special needs.  He or she will ensure that the student they are able to particiate in the program as best to the child's ability.  

Hours are dependant on the student(s) schedule and are after school from 3:15 p.m. until student is picked up or 6:30 p.m. at the latest (2:45 p.m. at the middle schools).  Days of the week may vary.  Additional hours may be available on school closure days, when Community Education offers full-day programs.   

Special needs may include emotional and behavioral disorders, communication issues and challenges and physical disabilities. In addition, EDP Instructional Assistants must also be able to meet the physical demands of the job, which include:

*Occasional bending, pushing, and moving. Lifting of objects with a strength factor of light work. 

*Assist students with personal care needs such as toileting, clothing, hygiene and washing up routines as needed.

*Clarity of vision at varying distances to monitor student’s behavior during after school  activities.

*Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner. Stooping, kneeling, lifting and standing for extended periods of time.

*CPR and First Aid certification may also be required.

Candidate must be at least 21 years or older.  At least 3 years working with special needs children is a must.
